As a parent of three young children, I am always looking for educational events as well as seminars to inform myself on best teaching and parenting strategies. The DC metro area offers a plethora of activities for children of all ages as well as parent seminars on various topics. Take a look at the events happening around the DC area next week:
Wednesday October 18 and November 8 – Primary Day School (7300 River Road Bethesda, MD) is holding a story and music time for 2 and 3 year olds from 10:30-11:15am. Children (along with a parent or caregiver) will join the librarian, Mr. Roach and music teacher Ms. McFeaters for a fun morning to celebrate the changing of seasons. Through thematic stories and songs, children will celebrate the fall season and make a fun craft to take home. Also- Unlimited Possibilities at The Badlands- October 20 (5200 Randolph Road, Rockville, MD) Spend a morning at Badlands, a nature-inspired play space the whole family can enjoy. Kids will discover new skills, have fun and stretch their imaginations. Bring this invitation with you for your complimentary visit to Badlands! Fun raffle included with your participation! RSVP to Alison Collins 301-365-4355 or a.collins@theprimarydayschool.org http://theprimarydayschool.com/
Wednesday October 18: Stress Less, Laugh More: Strategies for reducing stress and increasing happiness for families – Lab School of Washington (4759 Reservoir Road, NW Washington, DC ) 7:30-9:00pm Children and parents are under stress from many sources – busy schedules, high academic expectations, numerous extracurricular activities, and peer pressure. When learning differences, ADHD and/or executive functioning issues are present, children and parents can face additional challenges. However, our bodies are not designed to withstand chronic stress and as a result, the health of today’s children (and parents!) is suffering. Join psychologist Dr. Heather Tedesco as she discusses factors increasing stress on children and on parents, shares ways to recognize stress in kids, gives strategies for reducing stress, and explains how parents can encourage the key characteristics research links to long-term psychological health and happiness.
